Minnesota Duluth got three power-play goals and overcame an early deficit to defeat Notre Dame 4-3 in the first semifinal of the Frozen Four at the Xcel Energy Center Thursday afternoon.
The Bulldogs are in the title game for the first time since 1984 when they lost the championship to Bowling Green in four overtimes.
The Duluth power play was fantastic, as J.T. Brown, Mike Connolly and Jack Connolly had goals with the man advantage. Defenseman Justin Faulk had three assists, and Kyle Schmidt added an even-strength goal.
UMD goalie Kenny Reiter overcame a shaky start and stopped 31 shots, including 14 in the third period. The Irish outshot the Bulldogs 34-21, including a 15-2 advantage in the third period.
Notre Dame did not score on five power-play chances but did have a short-handed goal early in the third period to make it a one-goal game the rest of the way.

In watching these games, one has to think just how close MSU is to getting there!!!
We beat ND and UMD and had those "haunting" one goal losses with UND.
That said, I just feel that the returning players along with those coming in, have a bitter taste from this past year that will motivate them to get it done.
And I hope that all the emphasis/pressure put on the seniors in the past to perform is NOT done this season. Seniors know what is expected and when you do this, you alienate the rest of the TEAM. It is 28 players with the same goal of winning a League and National Championship. That should be enough motivation at this level.

I applaud the optimism but don't think looking at the games against ND UMD and UND means MSU is ready to compete for the Natl title. We lost and tied to Mich Tech. How does that figure into your opinion that they are almost there? Not that long ago UMD was at the bottom of the conference and look at them now. I hope MSU can do the same but you make it sound like they are going to win a couple of titles next year.
With an attitude like that crossjcek I'm sure you are a successful failure.
Or perhaps you are on the coaching staff? You have to have goals and think positive to have a chance to succeed.

Thanks for the life lesson but I am able to seperate my personal life (doing) and following college hockey (observing). I would love nothing more than for the Mavs to win every game they play.
It is obvious that if you don't think you can win you wouldn't step on the ice. The coaching staff you talk about will be the same next year as this year so by your own words nothing has changed. And yes, I have failed successfully many times.
