Leivermann named NAHL head coach

North Mankato native Corey Leivermann on Wednesday was promoted to head coach of the Janesville Jets, a Wisconsin-based junior hockey team that competes in the North American Hockey League.

Leivermann (pictured at left) had been the Jets' top assistant coach and director of scouting for the past 18 months. Prior to joining the team, Leivermann was head coach of the Jersey Shore Wildcats of the NA3HL and an assistant coach with the Wichita Falls Wildcats of the NAHL.

A 2008 Mankato West graduate, Leivermann played 2 1/2 seasons of college hockey at Minnesota State (2010-12) before transferring to Gustavus Adolphus, where he was a captain and All-American as a senior.

Earlier this season, another former Mavericks player, Carter Foguth, was promoted to head coach of the NAHL's Chippewa Steel (who happen to play in my hometown of Chippewa Falls, Wis.). Foguth hired one of his old MSU teammates, Zach Stepan, as an assistant coach.
