Mavs 1, Gophers 0 - 2OT
The Alltel Center never sounded so loud. With 2:24 remaining in the second overtime, Minnesota State's Trevor Bruess broke a scoreless tie to lift the Mavericks over Minnesota in the first game of the WCHA playoff series. The goal came after 97 minutes, 36 seconds of scoreless hockey. Mike Zacharias recorded his school-record fifth shutout of the season, stopping 34 shots. The Gophers' Alex Kangas stopped 44 shots.

According to Minnhock forums, Zach Lehrke of Park Rapids committed to play for the Mavs today. If true, this is a big recruit. It sounds like the kid knows how to score. Maybe he and Leivermann will put up some numbers working together someday.
USCHO.com has a headline on the Mavs/Gophers games (which was to be expected) and in it they acknowledge that the win "solidifies the Mavericks' hold on an NCAA tournament bid." Does this mean that even if pigs flew and the Mavs lost two straight to the Gophers, they'd still be in the national tournament in the end? Let's hope so.
Can someone explain all the empty seats at Alltel Center last night? I thought the game sold out earlier in the week.
So SWEEEEET. Way to go Mavs.
What a great win - especially being short handed after a stupid call for 6 men. How could the official make that call at that point in the game? Shepard is also blind - there were so many penalties that were not called prior to that. One of the poorest officiated games I've seen in a long time.
I dont know. How credible are those forums? Anyway lets just hope the Mavs finish it off tonight like we all know they can! Any word from the Scarlet Gopher.
