I know that the Mavs own the tiebreaker with Wisconsin, but what about with St. Cloud? If I am counting correctly, the Mavs need just one point this weekend from lowly Michigan Tech to clinch home ice for the WCHA playoffs.

What are the tiebreakers for WCHA seeding after head-to-head?

Minnesota needs a sweep over Duluth this weekend along with sweeps by Tech over the Mavs and UND over St. Cloud to play at Mariucci the following weekend.

Now all we can hope for is a series at the snooze-fest Alltel Center ... might as well be home ice!

P.S. Who will be covering West at the State tournament this week?

What the Mavs need most is a sweep by UMD and a Sweep by UND. Then all the have to do is get a tie and play on home ice as the 4 seed.

why — if the mavs remained at #11 in the Pairwise after losing to CC Friday — did they not move up a little after defeating the tigers on Saturday?

First tiebreaker is head-to-head, second tiebreaker is league wins. I forget what is third, but I think they pick a fan from each school to fight to the death.

MSU has the tiebreaker over Wisconsin and St. Cloud, but not Minnesota. I'm not sure what would happen with a three-way tie between any of those teams.

There's a millions different little factors that go into the Pairwise. Probably the biggest that hurt MSU on Saturday was Tech winning and getting back into the top 25. MSU's record against "Teams under consideration" actually got worse after Saturday night, since they added the two losses to Tech back onto the record in addition to our one win over CC.

Technically, the Mavericks did move up after beating CC, but not enough to move up in the standings. They put a little distance between the teams behind them, and put themselves in a position that they could move up to like 8th with a good weekend against Tech.

Ultimately it's best to just close your eyes, hope they win, and see where they stand the day after the conference tournaments.
