Inside College Hockey released its annual Great 58, its power rankings listing every Division I college hockey team, and it puts Minnesota State in at No. 43.
In it's WCHA preview, INCH calls Mike Dorr the league's unsung player but also picks the Mavericks to finish last in the league, saying: "Like another purple team that practices in Mankato, we think the Mavs will be competitive, and get outscored, on most nights.
Meanwhile, this week's USCHO national poll is out and MSU caught a couple of eyes with its split at RPI last weekend, as it received two points amid the "others receiving votes." RPI fell from No. 18 to No. 20. Boston College, which won the Icebreaker at North Dakota last weekend moved up to No. 1, thanks also to Notre Dame's split at Minnesota Duluth.

Who's No. 1?
The USCHO and USA Today preseason polls were released Monday, and there are different No. 1s. Notre Dame has the top spot in the former, and Miami leads the list in the latter.
College hockey appears to be wide open this season, though, because seven different teams received first-place votes in the USCHO poll (which I vote on, by the way).
Here's a look at this year's rankings (first-place votes in parenthesis):

Seven WCHA teams made the rankings/receiving votes: North Dakota, Denver, CC, Duluth, Omaha, Wisconsin, Minnesota and St. Cloud — all teams that are leaving the league in two years.
The other teams going to the NCHC — Miami and Western Michigan — are also in the rankings.
While Minnesota State and the other leftover WCHA didn't get any votes, the other future league members — Alaska, Ferris State, Lake Superior, Northern Michigan — all did, although none made the rankings.

Seven WCHA teams ranked
The first USCHO.com Division I men's rankings were released on Monday, and defending national champion Boston College is ranked No. 1, getting 45 of 50 first-place votes (including PucKato's).
Seven WCHA teams were ranked in the top 20 and two others also received votes. North Dakota is ranked second (with three first-place votes), St. Cloud State is fourth, Minnesota Duluth is eighth, Denver is ninth, Wisconsin is 13th, Minnesota is 15th and Colorado College is 20th. Bemidji State and Nebraska-Omaha also got votes, leaving Minnesota State, Alaska-Anchorage and Michigan Tech on the outside looking in right now.
