Inside College Hockey released its annual Great 58, its power rankings listing every Division I college hockey team, and it puts Minnesota State in at No. 43.
In it's WCHA preview, INCH calls Mike Dorr the league's unsung player but also picks the Mavericks to finish last in the league, saying: "Like another purple team that practices in Mankato, we think the Mavs will be competitive, and get outscored, on most nights.
Meanwhile, this week's USCHO national poll is out and MSU caught a couple of eyes with its split at RPI last weekend, as it received two points amid the "others receiving votes." RPI fell from No. 18 to No. 20. Boston College, which won the Icebreaker at North Dakota last weekend moved up to No. 1, thanks also to Notre Dame's split at Minnesota Duluth.

Please stop comparing the "what was D" to this years team. They have moved on and up which is what many college players aspire to do.
Just write about what "is, rather than what "was" please.
Also see about updating the blog photo's to include current players.
We can not go back, so let's all move on.

As for BIG's comment, I'll just say that I think it's completely fair to discuss the current D corps by talking about what was lost back there in terms of points and minutes played. Not just last year but for the last four years! It needs to be pointed out that there will be a very different look this year, as it is a group with little experience, especially now that Elbrecht's out for up to two months. I want to see if they're up to the task. Of course, my coverage will focus on this year, but you can't ignore the fact that they have some big skates to fill.
In regards to the banner photo on the blog, I'd like to replace with something from this season. I need to talk to our photographer first. Hopefully, he gets something I can use this weekend.
Kibbles 'n Bits
In most cases, one looks back to what what corrections and/or improvements should be made going forward. Yes, they and others before them had stellar 4 year careers, many minutes and points. Yet where did the team finish last year? Exactly my point.
This years team has more depth both front and back as was evident with this past weekends outcome. Was it a fluke? Let's hope not and that we see a revamped power-play where we plant a forward in front of the net and the low forwards use their D more as they help to set up 90% of pp scoring with direct passes or rebounds from shoots.
Filling big skates needs to be "team" versus individually oriented.
