This is the second time Bruess has been suspended since Feb. 24 when MSU and the league sat him down for that night's game against Nebraska-Omaha for a series of dangerous plays, including knee-to-knee hits and hits from behind.
On Saturday, Bruess received a five-minute major for kneeing and another, separate two-minute penalty for kneeing in the first period. Bruess leads the Mavericks with 115 penalty minutes.

Wow. Why cant Bruess stay away from those dangerous plays. He is really hurting the team.
Are we going to get any reaction from Bruess on this one? At least the Mavericks have the depth this year.
Apparently he just plays way too big for this league. Real fans would support rather that talk mess... he has been targeted all year and any idiot should be able to recognize that. Keep the little kids that want to duck from big hits that hurt in the kiddie leagues. Bruess' reaction will be one that makes him a lot of money and one in which he plays in a place that respects him as an amazing player.
I know Bruess is a great player. He plays harder than anyone on the team. But at some point he needs to learn that the same plays are putting him in the box, time after time. Maybe he has been targeted but that is not an excuse for making the same plays time after time. The way he is hurting the team on Friday is not being in the lineup.
P.S. I think most of the plays Bruess was called on this year would be called in the NHL also.
Bottom line is that he has a great future ahead of him....if the wcha wants to push him towards the nhl sooner than later, then that is exactly the result they will achieve.
t, do you really think he is NHL caliber? he is a great hustle guy but Jon Kalinski was as good at that if not better and he had way more offensive talent to go with it.
Did anyone actually see this hit? It happened almost right in front of me, but I was watching something going on across the ice. I was sitting by a bunch of SCSU fans and they seemed to think it was barely a minor penalty let alone a major that would draw a suspension. Of course, kneeing can be something that is a bit difficult to see unless you are looking for it.
I saw it clearly. It was setting up to be a solid open ice hit when the SCSU player evaded at the last second but left his leg out in front of Bruess. Bruess was set up with a wide stance already to make a solid hit... This resulted in what appeared to be a nasty knee to knee. Bruess probably couldn't have avoided it... I'd say it was as much the SCSU player's fault as his. The second kneeing penalty was more legit. Bruess could have avoided that one, in my opinion.
