North Dakota 4, MSU 1 (updated)

Any momentum the Mavericks had going into the first series of the second half of the WCHA season seemed to get sucked away Friday night, as they fell to No. 5 North Dakota 4-1.

The only bright spot was Ben Youds' first goal of the season and the second of his career. That goes along with his 18 assists this season and 37 for his career.

Other than that, it was all North Dakota, who had a 33-19 shots-on-goal advantage, took advantage of some shaky defensive-zone play and got two goals each from Corban Knight and Jason Gregoire.

MSU goaltender Phil Cook suffered an apparent back injury after UND's second goal at 6:48 of the first period and was replaced with Austin Lee, who stopped 27 of 29 shots.

Mavericks coach Troy Jutting said his team is allowed to bring in an emergency goaltender who is not part of the traveling party in case of injury. So expect Kevin Murdock to somehow find his way to Grand Forks in time to back up Lee on Saturday.
