Weekend update

Here are a few notes from the rinks ...

The Gustavus women's hockey team fell to No. 1 Amherst 4-0 in the semifinals of the NCAA D3 championship on Friday night in St. Peter. Read Jim Rueda's account here. The Gusties will play in the third-place game on Saturday afternoon.

Now ex-Maverick Kael Mouillierat scored his first professional goal on Friday, playing for the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL. He scored it against his old teammate Mike Zacharias, who got the win for the Ontario Reign. Geoff Irwin, who also signed with the Steelheads, did not play in the game.

Of course in the Final Five, St. Cloud State and North Dakota won in the semifinals to set up Saturday night's title game. The conference's top two regular-season teams, Denver and Wisconsin, are playing in the third-place game.

I attended Friday's WCHA games, and North Dakota is playing great hockey right now. The Sioux's Evan Trupp is the early favorite for Final Five most outstanding player. He had two goals and a phenomenal assist in the 4-3 win over DU.

Shane, heard Pittlick is going to the WHL. Have you heard that?

I have not heard that. I would be very surprised if he'd make that decision now, before this summer's draft. Why not wait to see who drafts him first.

I think he is going to the WHL for whatever NHL team drafts him. Thats the rumor.

Hate to see him leave. Puts a huge hole in next years team. Thought the freshman line played well and was hoping they would be around a couple years. Was afraid this was going to happen.

That is horrible to see him leave. Second player in 2 years that school was a problem.

No way. Has this been absolutely confirmed?

Maybe it's because I never played for a real team but whatever happened to sticking things through? Aren't there even peewees and bantams that switch programs "for their best interest?"

Well, if it's true, best of luck to Tyler.

And also, glad to see Mall-Rat get on the board right away... hopefully he gave Mike a hard time, even though Mike got the win.

Ryan Lasch has officially become StC's all time leading scorer as well. He got the assist on the first StC goal tonight. Good for him - good things happen when you stick around for 4 years, plus the potential benefits later on in life with a college degree (but that's another topic, like music at the Cell Phone)

Where is this information about Pitlick coming from? Is there any credible sources? If these rumors are true it is a huge blow to the Maverick squad next year.
